This is the weekly intelligence briefing for Aug 24–30, 2026. Organic sales were $63.33M, down 44.7% week-over-week, while buyer addresses rose 30.5%.

1. Market: How Much Traded, and Who Participated?

Organic NFT sales were $63.33M for the week ending Aug 29, down 44.7% from the prior capture's window. Transactions fell 14.1% to 802,330. But buyer addresses rose 30.5% to 227,316 and seller addresses rose 54.6% to 247,373. Value contracted while participation expanded — the two series have decoupled.

Value per transaction fell to roughly $79 (from about $99 in the prior capture). Value per buyer address fell harder: about $279 this week against roughly $553 in the prior capture — a decline of around 50%. More wallets, smaller and fewer transactions each: that is the week in one sentence.

2. Chains: Where Did Volume Sit, and How Much Was Wash?

ChainOrganicW/WWashBuyer addrsBuyers W/W
Ethereum$35.56M-49.0%$1.66M33,105+34.3%
Bitcoin$8.68M-59.5%$0.09M10,161+41.1%

Solana$1.91M+11.2%38,593+43.0%
Immutable$1.87M+18.4%n/a

Ethereum held $35.56M of organic sales — roughly 56% of the global total — despite a 49.0% weekly decline. The structural story is Solana: organic sales rose 11.2% to $1.91M while every other major chain fell, with buyer addresses up 43.0% to 38,593. Polygon's organic figure of $7.03M understates its on-chain activity, because $18.19M of wash volume also ran through it.

3. Blue Chips: Where Did Floors Land?

NeoDrop's briefing (cutoff Aug 28, 09:00 ET) captured five blue-chip floors against the Aug 21 OpenSea snapshot, with ETH nearly flat on the week ($2,514.97 → $2,515.68). The cohort split rather than moved together: Pudgy Penguins +12.0% while BAYC −3.1% and CryptoPunks −1.3%.

One caution on snapshot dating: some widely circulated articles cite CryptoPunks floors above 47 ETH. Those captures reference a different period — an ETH rally near $3,814 — not this window. We use the Aug 28 snapshot because it is precisely dated for the week under review.

4. Wash Trading: How Much Reported Volume Was Organic?

CryptoSlam separates organic sales from wash-trading volume, and this week the separation carries real analytical weight: on Polygon, wash volume of $18.19M ran against organic sales of $7.03M — a ratio of about 2.59×. Base's wash figure of $4.80M also exceeded its $3.57M organic total. Ethereum's wash share was comparatively small at $1.66M on $35.56M organic.

ChainOrganicWashWash ÷ Organic
Ethereum$35.56M$1.66M0.05×
Bitcoin$8.68M$0.09M0.01×
Polygon$7.03M$18.19M2.59×
Base$3.57M$4.80M1.34×

The practical consequence: any chain-level volume ranking that does not separate wash from organic misorders the market. On a combined basis Polygon would outrank Bitcoin; on organic volume it does not.

5. Outlook: What Would Move the Numbers Next Week?

Falsifiable watch items with thresholds — each one stated so that next week's edition can score it as happened or did not.

  1. Solana's growth. Organic sales rose 11.2% to $1.91M. A second consecutive week of growth would establish a divergence from the rest of the market; a fall would mark this week as a one-off.
  2. Polygon's wash ratio. Wash ran at 2.59× organic this week. If the ratio stays above 2×, Polygon's headline volume remains mostly wash; a fall below 1× would make its organic figure newly meaningful.
  3. Buyer-address growth. Addresses rose 30.5% while value fell 44.7%. A second week of rising addresses alongside falling value would make the participation–value divergence a pattern rather than a one-week artefact.
  4. Pudgy Penguins' floor. Up 12.0% to 4.29 ETH while BAYC fell 3.1%. A further rise would suggest collection-specific demand rather than a blue-chip-wide move.
  5. Concentrated-volume collections. $X@AGI recorded $2.58M from 3 transactions. If it appears again next week with a similar concentration, it belongs in a watchlist of volume artefacts rather than in a demand narrative.
Key takeaways
  • Sales fell 44.7% to $63.33M; buyer addresses rose 30.5% to 227,316.
  • Solana was the only major chain with growing organic sales (+11.2%).
  • Polygon wash volume was 2.59× its organic total.
  • Blue-chip floors split: Pudgy +12.0%, BAYC −3.1%, Punks −1.3%.
  • Value per buyer address fell ~50% to about $279.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the five questions in NFT Weekly Intelligence?

Market — headline value vs participation; Chains — organic and wash volume by chain; Blue Chips — floor prices; Wash Trading — how much reported volume was organic; Outlook — falsifiable watch items for next week.

How much did NFT sales fall this week?

44.7% week-over-week, to $63.33M in organic sales for the week ending Aug 29, per CryptoSlam's Aug 29 capture.

Why is there no transaction-cost section this week?

The previous cost section relied on gas and fee figures we could not source for this window. Rather than publish estimates, we replaced it with a wash-trading section — which the CryptoSlam data supports directly and which carries more analytical weight this week.

Are buyer-address counts the same as user counts?

No. CryptoSlam reports blockchain addresses, and one person or entity can control many addresses. Address counts are an upper bound on distinct participants — both CryptoSlam and the outlets reporting its data state this explicitly.
